stupid question

When ordering a custom chip for a 7.3 why does it matter if its a california truck, and how would you even know? Thanks

most of the chips are cali legal i heard the best is the TS performance

Actually, It matters because Cali trucks have larger injectors among other differences. And TS is definitely not the best. Custom chips which are tuners who some of them us the TS chip but burn their custom tunes onto it, those are the way to go from places like TW, PHP, Swamps, Beans, DP....

well like i said i heard they were and i have a california truck and i havent heard anything different and if you get a programmer they usually have the right program for your truck when you order it

Cali trucks have bigger injectors. huh thats good to know. How can you tell if its a cali truck?

My bad if that last message came off like a *****. I was trying to watch deadliest catch, text a girl and answer your questions.

Yes, the Cali trucks have 130cc split shot injectors not 98cc singles like 49state trucks. Basically they are a little more powerful than 49states. As for the chips, i would definitely get a custom tuned chip made for your truck specifically. Dont get an edge or something like that. The people i mentioned before are tried and true for our trucks and will give you the best bang for the buck.

Well.....one tattle tale sign is look at the fuel lift pump. If it has a large black "Saucer like space ship" mounted on top of the pump, it's a Cali truck.

There are other signs IE a "Shunt" on the GP relay plus there should be at least one (1) decal under the hood stating that it is a Cali truck.

the emissions sticker on the passenger side valve cover is a blue color, not black like ours.

It'll say 225hp on the valve cover if it's a Cali, 215hp if it's no

I have a 97, 49 state truck and it is rated 225. There was a thread on this a while back. Someone with a Cali truck posted a pic of there sticker

From what i understand of that. The sticker that you have George is what Navistar rated the engine at when it left their factory but Fords PCM controls it at 215.

I've had a Banks chip in my 97 PS since 2000. Muffler & cat removed at the same time. Never had a problem, gets anywhere from 17-20 mpg depending on my right foot (mostly 17mpg). Pulls trailers really well. I've done as many as three 11,000 ft passes in Co in one day pulling a travel trailer. Never heats up. I limit my turbine outlet temp to 950-1000 deg. In top gear will still outrun most cars.

Don't know if they still make 'em but I'm sure pleased.
