fuel supply problems

On my 1984 F250 Diesel I have no fuel to the fuel filter. when I switch tanks nothing seems to happen. The fuse is good. There is fuel in the tank. How do I go about troubleshooting this?

sounds like the fuel pump is shot. How much fuel is in the tanks? Sometimes the pickup tube will break off at 1/4 tank.

it should be on the front bottom of the motor, drivers side. Yes some refer to it as a Lift pump.

Id take a 5 gallon can fill it up and put it in the tank just to be sure that a broken pickup is not the problem.

The lift pump is on the front lower RIGHT (USA Passenger side) corner of the motor, it looks like a typical gasser mechanical fuel pump.

Disconnect the input line (from tank) and attach a boat bulb pump to see if you get fuel, or you can connect a line to the inlet of the lift pump and stick it in a CLEAN jug of fuel then crank the motor to see if it pumps.

-Enjoy
