Harley Davidson Questions
I might be in the market for a used 2wd model and I was wondering if there is anything in particular to look out for when looking at one of these trucks? I'd like to keep it 02 or newer, not sure when they started making them. Is there anything out there that a guy should stay away from?

I know you said 02 or newer but I'm having to get rid of my baby. Great truck after you get past the fact it isn't blown, but the cheap gas is nice. Anyway, hope you find your HD.

A little on the high mileage and it looks like a bit of GOFASTER has been added.

I have a 2000 Harley F150. First year they were made. All black extended cab. They weren't supercharged until 2002 or 2003. So mine is a sleeper with a Kenne Bell Twin Screw Supercharger. You will get compliments everywhere you go when you own a harley truck. They are all sharp looking and stand out! Best of luck finding one. There are some low mileage ones out there that have been well taken care of or in storage since they were new. Post up some pics when you make the purchase!

Watch out for those early 00' Triden engines that eject spark plugs. Mine ejected #6 and it cost me close to $880 for the total repair. I've heard horror stories about people who have paid much more. I thought it would never happen to be since I babied my 00' Harley truck so. Google it and do your homework before you pull the trigger. After a bevy of problems all in a 3 month period I finally traded it in. Having said that I bought an 07' Lariat, so I'm either a die- hard Ford guy or a knucklehead. Just be aware of the spark plug issue, aparently, they made the threads way too short for a few years.

$880 bucks is wayyyyyyyyyyyy too much to repair a spark plug ejection. When it happened to my L, it cost me $200 bucks to have an insert installed.
$200 to $250 is the going rate to place an insert in the head to repair spark plug holes.
Spark plug ejections can be eliminated if the plugs are installed on a cold engine and properly torqued, then checked on a regular basis.

PS - It doesn't matter how you drive or if you have a vehicle with a SC, spark plug ejections happened on all the modular engines, from the 4.6L Crown Vics to the V10 6.8L trucks.

OK I'M HAVING A TAPPING NOISE IN MY 2003 HARLEY, DEALERSHIP WANTS TO TELL ME IT'S THE ENGINE BUT OIL AND ALL FLUIDS ARE GOOD. THEY COULDN'T TELL ME WHATS WRONG. ALL THEY COULDTELL ME WAS LOOK FOR A MOTOR. AN OLD SCHOOL MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT WHEN I TOOK MY OIL CAP OFF WHILE THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING AND THE NOISE DIDN'T GET LOUDER IT WAS NOT MY MOTOR. CAN ANYONE GIVE ME SOME IDEAS???

Just had a plug eject itself on my 2003 F250 V10. Cost $258. I would have looked into other places if you paid $880. Someone say you coming and You got raped! Also they said making sure your vehicle is good & warm and the oil has circulated thru the motor all the way before you start driving can "help" prevent it. Those aluminum heads are totally common for this to happen on...so I found out as this was my first experience.
