Ok, I have a problem with my truck but I think I might have figured it out. When I take off from a dead stop it shakes really bad. Even when I shift gears I can feel it shake when I release the clutch. I have checked everything under the truck and there is nothing loose or broken. Could this be the clutch is "chattering" and going bad? Also when I let the clutch out the petal only comes half way back and makes a metal rubbing sound, unless I pull it all the way out with my foot.
It sounds like the clutch is chattering. It doesn't mean it's worn out, but it could be broken fingers on the pressure plate, oil leaking onto the clutch surface, or hot spots on the flywheel or pressure plate.
But really the only way to fix it is to put a new clutch in it. And fix the oil leak if that's what was causing it.
As for the return it sounds like a weak return spring under the dash.
Also make sure the clutch is adjusted properly. I don't know if that can cause chattering or not but I would make sure it's adjusted before tearing into it.
My chatter was caused by a rusty flywheel... seems the thing had gotten wet and then sat
for a LONG time as there was all sorts of pitting and corrosion of the flywheel beneath the
clutch disc.
