what nationwide,"chevron, citgo, sinclair, shell........" has the best diesel? Ford says our motors need a min of 45 cetane fuel. Does anyone know what their ratings are?
thank you
most are well below the 45 cetane level as there is no set standard. Get your fuel at a truck stop or high volume location is the best advice. When on the road if you have GPS and can program it, do so with truck stop info so you can know when there is one to get fuel.
You can use a cetane booster is about the only thing to do.
BTW- That cetane recommendation/rating of 45 is for cold weather. Naturally higher cetane ##s are better. Just mentioning this because some folks are really getting themselves "wrapped around the axle" over this issue. It's always good to use a good additive, but more for lubricity than cetane. This ULSD is really "dry" in terms of lubrication ability.

The Diesel Kleen works well in mine. It's a cetane boost, injector conditioner, and lubricity booster all in one. Some day I'll stop by Ford and grab a bottle of theirs, but at $6.00 for 32oz of the Diesel Kleen, I'll probably keep using it. Took away most of my diesel clatter, increased my mileage, and keeps the regens at 300+ miles in-between...Can't beat it imho.

Wow! Where are you getting it for $6.00? I've been using the same stuff. Been buying it at Walmart. I've just started using the XDP additive, just to try it out. No thoughts yet on it. It is only $6.95 for a bottle that treats 500 gal.

Watch what you buy. XPD is Opti Lube, XDP is Diesel Perf. stuff. I don't know how a quart of XDP can treat 500 Gal
I have been using DK for a few months now, but I did buy a bottle of XDP to see if there is any change. Havent started using it yet though.
There is only one place i know of that uses a high cetane rating enough for a powerstroke. Its a 50 rating. Youll be surprized to know its used by penske truck rental and thats all they run in their trucks plus its like 5 dollars a gallon too. Couldnt believe it but very true though.
