best diesel fuel milage

What Fullsize pickup with a diesel engine gets the best fuel milage?

Probably regular cab/short box Cummins(5.9)? That'd be my guess.

i've never seen a regular cab shortbox with a diesel in it

I have seen one it belonged to the home builder that my parents used. However, that was the only one, but I hardly notice those.

early 94 IDI f250 regular cabs had an epa estemated of 25 And I've heard got it. with 355s Heard of rams with cummins getting 30 but not sure if that was stock or what year.

I dont think ford makes em but i know that dodge does. It looks wrong!

Oh wait forgot cant get the mega cab in a long bed from the factory.

EPA never issued mileage figures for anything over half-ton (F150) size trucks.... and they still don't. Go to their website ....

and see if you can find an F250.

All are generalities but: As far as engines, cummins is the best. Manual trannies do better than automatics and 2WD do better than 4x4. Things will vary from year to year for each manufacturer.

The absolute best that I know of is the old anemic N/A 6.2 that GM had in the early 80s, but I doubt you would want one of them.

i regularly get 17-18 mpg with 50-50 driving in my 04.5 cummins,auto 4x4.. truck is far from stock. i have bigger tires, a 12,000lb winch hanging off of the front end, tool box in the bed with a couple hundred lbs of stuff,etc,etc,etc. i can get 21mpg on the highway, if i keep her under 2,000 rpm's

Thats wierd I read that on some magazines web site when I was thinking about buying my truck maybe I'm remembering wrong and they got thouse figures some where elI'll see if I can find it again.

By far the all time best stock diesel motor has to be the 6.2 GM. My 83 Sub got 18-19 in town and I even saw 27mpg on the highway flats with it! It was gutless but man it got great mpg's!! It was a 2 wheel drive 1/2 ton Sub....... Even the early Cummins had a hard time getting those mpg's totally stock...

I will have to agree with you stockman my 83 blazer with the 6.2 got 24mix driving its got 280,000 mi on the orginal motor, but gutless as hell but don't ask how many transmissions its had to hard to count that high
