I go the car for free, might get a junk 79 F250 as well for free. It was buried a quarter way up the side in sand, it's not pretty. I'm removing the roof panel as it's good for repairs and the engine and some little trim here and there, rear end I found out will be impossible to sell so it too scrapped. The window glass and rear window glass and grill and taillights will be saved, and the rims and tires if I can get them off on the trailer. everything else is junk. All the parts will be sold that I take off except the rims, I have no room for anything more. This trailer will get piled junk metal until my van bumper is almost on the ground, then it goes in the van should take a couple of weeks.
Well today I finally got enough time and room to put the engine in my 68 F250 and now it's up for sale as well, hopefully by summers end both Ford trucks will be sold or I won't know what to do with them. That's the longest I've had any vehicle, my 68 F250 for 10 years. It will be missed, so will my 86.
Hello again, hope everyone's June is going well. Well I got my trailer full of metal, it's higher then the van. I'm going to find this trailers breaking point yet Hopefully I'll get a couple hundred for scrap from it tomorrow.
On another note I have now sold off all my 68 F250 parts except for a couple of trim pieces. Sad to see but it's finally sinking in that the truck won't be restored by me. Got way more for parts then what I'm asking for the truck, hopefully it sells soon so I don't have to keeping looking at it and sighing.
Been reorganizing my shed and getting rid of things I'm not going to use, after a few weeks of working on it it finally looks like I'm getting somewhere. It took me 3 days to just move my FE stuff, I most likely have enough FE stuff to fill a two garage and then some, stacking them two high to make room. I need more cars to put these in . Been using my 86 for moving stuff around, it can't handle a 318 with transfer case and a 428 with tranny's at the same time, the bumper hits the ground, so I put a jack under it and drove it where I needed them Amazing the stuff I've found so far, found a brand new carpet, a garden tractor, a snow blower, and some 64-66 Chevy truck parts I thought I sold, oh and a 5hp go-kart engine. I even found my stash of Autolite 4100's, I was so happy I found them I made a cabinet for all my Autolite stuff.
I'm hoping after it's all said and done I will have a more workable work area and enough money to buy a 4x4 truck (can't afford a 6x6) or a portable shed to put more stuff in
Bill I don't understand that sentance No, this trailer has no brakes. I have a van with big tires and brakes and if that fails, that's what other cars are for.
Seriously though I've had no issues with not having them so far, other then one stupid guy who cut me off, while it was raining. I've done lots of trailering with heavy stuff, I'm pretty careful, can't watch all the idiots though. It would be nice to afford a wider longer trailer with a bigger winch and a built in air compressor and built in tool-box and electric brakes, but that takes money, which I don't have. I would love a tow-truck style push bumper too, but they cost $1200, twice what I paid for the van.
Took in the scrap metal today, just over 6,000 pounds of scrap metal. Nice paycheck, didn't even get all my metal, axles were starting to flex. Truck and trailer weighed just over 7,000 pounds. No idiots today trying to kill themselves and me, good thing too, 13,000 pounds of metal would have done some damage.
Ya clean aluminum goes for about 5 times what aluminum cans do, I think cans are at 40-45 cents a pound. And copper goes pretty good too, don't usually get much of that though other then junk radiators, I think it was around 80 cents a pound. The thing that's gone nuts is platinum which is in catalytic converters. Last time I took in cats that the insides were still intact I got $50-120 a cat depending on size. Cats with no insides ain't worth spit.
I restore cars for people and sometimes when I tell them a rough estimate on the cost to fix it they sell it to me cheap and it goes in for scrap, sad. I've also have had a few cars just given to me, I seem to be the local car/junker guy so I've had a few times people say I got a car at my place you take it it's yours. I need nicer vehicles though, maybe people will give me nicer cars then
I personally hate junking old cars as they are not made anymore and it's sad to see them bite the dust. They are only worth what time and money you are willing to give, so some just are not worth it.
