Been awhile since I have posted. My 04 Expi Xlt has been pretty good and now has 86K on it. On a trip this weekend from Sacramento to Boise and traveling with out dogs in the back I found warm/hot air blowing from the up vents. This with no AC on and the front putting out cool fresh air. No amount of fiddling the the temp control know would change the temp. Out side air was in the 40's. By tuning on the AC I was able to get cooler air out of the vent but not real cool like the AC would put out.
By search the forum I have found out that I probably need both actuators
When switching from the rear roof vent to floor vent I hear a thumping and can feel the air pulsing out of the floor vent and when the thumping stops which it does after awhile there is not air from the vent. Changing the temp control does nothing. Sometime it does stop on its own.
When switching back to the roof vent I hear a clicking sound, not a thumping sound. It does stop after awhile also and using the temp control does not change anything.
I can see the upper actuator on top of the housing after removing the package tray and cup holder. On the side of the housing there is another white gizmo but that is not an actuator is it?
I have printer some instruction from my search on how to change them. I just want to make sure I get the stuff so I don't have go back in and redo it.
I have no problem removing all the panels as before retiring I worked for the California High Patrol installing emergency equipment in various vehicles including the Expedition, which required stripping the interior of all panels. Just don't want to do it on a cold day as plastic breaks when cold, also don't want to have to do in multiply times.
Just want to verify that it most likely is the two actuators.
I just changed my blend door actuator yesterday. Would've changed them both, if I'd had them both. Will do the other one probably next weekend. That's the easy one, anyway, so that will not take more than a few minutes.
So, yeah, while you are there, might as well change both of them. Even if the other one is still working, it is very likely it will also fail in the future. Not a big expense.
Ordered the 2 acturators from our sponsor PartsguyEd.com Thanks every one the replies and the help, especially the thread with the pictures. Will let you know how everything works out.
