The two jobs are churning and the funds are coming in and I have put forth effort into fixing up Mugly.
I would like to Thank Les again for donating a set of EOSF steel braided lines towards my project. I installed them yesterday evening while also taking apart my auto hubs to R&R them. Good news on the hubs is that I have figured out why one of them wasn't working. The bad news however is that I think I might need to replace the entire hub.
I have been on Parts Guy Ed's website and I can't even find the price of a auto hub or pieces for one. The part I have broken is the white nylon star shaped piece that is one of the first pieces to remove when taking the hub apart. I wish I could post up a picture but I am borrowing the girlfriend's laptop to even make this post.
I will try and give Ed a call tomorrow so I can get a hub on the way since I am assuming I can't order individual hub pieces.
I believe I only need one. Basically the ring around the nylon piece shattered away allowing the internals to run a wry in the hub, preventing even a manual locking.
Just general brake cleaner should do the trick. Might have to use quite a bit as the grease will be thick but if you clean as much as you can with a putty knife and screw driver, it shouldn't be too hard of a job. If you would have access to a parts washer the job would be even easier. The stream under pressure would clean the bearings better. Or are you putting in new bearings?
So after all this my 4x4 is working quite well but I am having another problem. One of my hubs is physically tough to turn, it looks like the O-ring around the hub may have broken. Do I need to replace the external portion of the hub or is there a way I can fix this?
