after the complete rear end rebuild last week now i have no brake lights. i have checked all fuses and bulbs. i have no power to the brake light switch and the flashers do not work.i have ran a hot wire over to the brake switch just to see if it was just the switch bad but no light. read in the haynes manual the best i could tell the brake wires run trew the flasher somehow. every other light works properly. HELP PLEASE i dont want to sale but its starting to become a real thought. this is on a 78 f150
If you've ruled out the brake light switch, flashers, bulbs, grounds, etc. i'm thinking the TSS is bad, did you try swapping your flashers around? one controls the 4-ways (hazards) the other controls the turn signals.
i was thinking tss to but really wasnt sure since the front where working? would that keep power from the brake light switch? THANKS FOR THE HELP i have been racking my brain for 3 days now on this one. thanks
I can't answer your question with 100% certainty but i do know on the last three TSS switchs i've replaced the front t/s were unaffected, it was the rear t/s along with the brake lights that were affected by the faulty TSS.
Weldworks, Everyone has they're own way of doing things so you do what you feel is best, but I would like to make a suggestion. If you should decide to change your TSS you will need to take the wires out of the gray half moon looking connector and pull them up through your collum. I would strongly recomend that you tape or tie a piece of scrap wire or string to the wires before you pull them out of the collum. Tape or tie the wires from the new TSS to your string or wire from the top side to pull them back through. This little trick will save you a world of frustration and nasty words.
well im back with the same problem ive had. thats to all with the advice they have given. but i still have no rear brake light or turn signals. i have replaced the TSS with a new one from LMC and also replaced taillight housings and taillight plugs. i still have no power to the brake light switch on the pedal. not real sure where to look from here. could the ignition have anything to do with this problem? this is the only place i havent look . i recently had to replace the ignition switch plug and have thought maybe a buttspice on one of the wires has possibly came loose? any help is appreciated
I'm pretty sure the brake light circuit doesn't go throught the ignition, this circuit is hot all the time so doesn't need to be "keyed". Check the fuse that controls the brake lights and see if there is voltage there. If there is, it sounds like there could be a break in the wire somewhere between the fuse panel and the tss. If it was after the switch, one side would work. If there is no voltage at the fuse block the problem is probably in the fuse block itself.
But some other thoughts: Is the brake light switch properly grounded? Also, try flipping the wires to the tail lights/brake lights. See if it makes a difference. Was there any change made to the dome/interior lights? I believe the brake lights supply the power to the interior lights. Might have a bad switch in the line.
