Thought I had solved the squirrel problem I had written about a year ago. My wife was sitting in the trailer and heard noise underneath so went outside and watched. She saw one of the beasts jump down at the back of the unit. Looked around and saw a small hole in the back corner which she duct taped off. Two squirrels went nuts trying to get in. When I came back from golfing I went around to see if there were any other holes and taped them off or plugged with steel wool. (thought I covered everything last year). Later we could hear them scratching etc, underneath trying to get in. Checked and they were trying to chew thru the underbelly. That was it! Went to town (20 miles) bought a pump, pellet air pistol (451 fps) came back and blew them away.
I do not understand why the manufacturer of a unit that cost over 100k cannot seal off the thing properly.
I am going to apply 1/4 inch grid wire to every hole and gap I can find and hope the little beggers stay out. That will be my summer camp project this year. HAPPY CAMPING ALL
Well, this gives me a good reason to fix up (hasn't been used in years) and keep my ten pump Daisy pellet/BB gun (with the 10x scope on it, I used to be deadly with it).
Keep in mind squirrels are nothing but rats with good PR!
Hmmm... if it's the dog urine that's keeping them away...marketing possibilities?
I have heard of concentrated fox urine to deter squirrels, so its a possability that dog urine works??? I don't think concentrated fox pee would leave a pleasant smell....good luck with the tree rats.
