Just bought my first diesel and was wondering what everone's opinion is, on using an additive in the fuel for lubrication. I have a 06' F-250.Thanks in advance.
There are mixed reviews on whether you should use one or not. Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel does not have as much lubricity as Low Sulfur Diesel, so that is one big reason why people recommend using them. Read this article and choose what you feel works best for you http://www.johnfjensen.com/Diesel_fu...itive_test.pdf. There are lots of choices out there. Make sure you use a DEMULSIFIER and not an EMULSIFIER. The demulsifier will cause the water to separate from the fuel, which is what you want.
For those of you who use the 2-cycle ashless, the quoted report states "Not ULSD compliant, may damage 2007 or newer systems." I have a 2007 F350 6.0 and want to do all I can to care for this machine. What kind of damage are they referring to?

I think their notation about causing damage to 2007 or newer diesel's is due to diesel particulate filter systems. (DPF)
i use the deere fuel additive in every gallon (blended for deere by standadyne) of bp diesel supreme.
the problem i see with the use of ashless 2 stroke as a fuel additive is you are only getting part of the package, lubrication.
with a quality diesel fuel additive you not only get the extra lubrication, but cetane improvers along with demulsifiers for water seperation, the complete package needed to keep injectors and the entire fuel system in proper working order.
