After you have 3 rows laid together the floor go back and drop in your spacers for expansion. The floor as you know floats so it straightens itself out, make sense?......The all-in-one pad has a row of tape built in that you pull tab/paper off and exposes sticky stripe which you adhere to previous laid piece of pad.
Are there spaces put in other than at all the walls? I thought I read somewhere that there is 1/8" spacers along the sides and ends....is that the case?
Thanks for the info on the padding. That is probably what I will use.
Your wall will probably go in an out slightly along the length so just add some shims, say 3/8" on the, how do I say this,,,put the shim on the deepest part of the run. Ray I`ll shoot ya pm with my #. Anyway just doing 2 bedrooms is not that big of a concern movement wise out here in Cali but back east you have different humidity than we do. Heck I dont even sweat, I glisten! Portuguese thing ya know!! Give me a buzz an I`ll walk you though it
I got about half of one room done today. Learning curve wasn't bad but some of the cuts gave me fits. Went slow and so far didn't waste any.
I did notice about two rows of boards back that I have a slight bubble in the laminate at one of the end joints. I may have done it tapping it in even though I was using a piece of wood. Nobody would ever notice it but me but tomorrow morning I am pulling laminate back out to replace the piece. I'll just reuse the dinged piece at the end of a row so I can cut out the damage.
Hank - thanks for return call and thanks also for the tip on cutting the door trim. The Japanese saw I went out and bought worked great.
So, here is today's progress. One room "done" which means the flooring is in. Quarter round and touch up some paint to go before furniture can go back in.
Thank you both for the compliments. By the last run of boards I felt like an expert - measure, cut, snap into place. I had a surprisingly small amount of wasted material. Even the pieces I had to notch for the closet door walls weren't that bad. I only miscut one piece but I was able to reuse it in another spot.
Only "mistake" I made was basing my layout on 8" boards. They are 7 5/8" or thereabouts. I ended up with about a 3 1/2" board at the far wall. Turned out okay I guess. The only two people who matter are happy with it.
Next comes the master bedroom - 260 sf versus the 140 sf this room was. But, with longer runs I think it will probably take me the same amount of time. I'm taking next weekend off for a four-day golf trip so they can wait on the bedroom.
Okay, last photo for a while - I promise. This room is "done" with the exception of some touch-up paint and replace the t-molding that I put in since I don't like the way it turned out. I installed base-cap at the foot of the baseboard instead of quarter round . I also changed all the outlet covers, painted the window sills and generally tried to make it just right. Oh yeah, then I had to put all the furniture back in there with no help except the grubby 7 year-old shown in the picture. One day into summer vacation and he's bored....
It looks like an excellent job. If you lived closer to me I could get you some work on the side.
There is an option for anybody wanting a floating tile floor. Home Depot has something called "Allure strip flooring". It comes in wood grains and ceramic or stone look. I have used it over wood. Not sure how it looks over concrete.
