a guy in my home town has a 87-89 f-250 or 350 4x4. i dont have much info on it. it does have a 460. the thing is the wiring is burnt up in it. the truck does not run because of it. it has efi. dont know if it is auto or manual. what trannies would it have. if it is a f=350 it would have better axles right? the body is so so and brown. you guys have any ideas what its worth. im planning on taking the motor out and putting it in my 78. if its a 5 speed tranny, thats going in too.
well if the wiring it burnt then most likely the EFI comp and stuff is also toasted. might be useable if u switch it over to carb...dunno what to tell ya...
If it's that old it's probably got tons of miles on it. If all you want is the engine, you might be better off looking for a rebuilt one. Depends on how much money you want to spend. Buying this truck, and ending up having to rebuild the engine anyway, would be more than it's worth I think.

1987 was the last year for a carb, so it's either a 1988 or 1989. It could have a 4-speed T19, a 5-speed ZF, A E4OD (4-speed auto OD) or C6 (automatic 3-sp). If it's a solid front axle, it's a Dana 60, if it's a F-250, it's a D50.
You should be able to purchase the truck for less than $800. My friend bought a 2wd F-250 Supercab for $750. It ran but barely. So this truck will go for less.
If you can, try to get a compression test on the motor, and give it a good look over. If the compression is pretty bad, don't consider it. You'd be better off getting another engine.
If the truck has a ZF 5-speed, go for it. The tranny itself is worth at least $1000.
You can part the truck out, or build it up as a second truck.
i am really hoping it is a zf 5 speed. and a f-350. that would be great. if its a f=250 and a 4 speed manual or a computer controlled automatic i probably ain't going to buy it. thanks guys.
