Hey Stewart, are these instructions the same for someone using Evans waterless coolant? If not would you know the difference or what might need to be added?

I would use the instructions provided by Evans.

I would assume they provide prep instructions for the customer vehicle, yes? Don't they provide the necessary steps to drain the coolant and any other procedures needed before adding the Evans?

Good questions but I don't know. I guess one would have to go to the website and see if they provide them. I'm not changing to Evans, I'm staying with my ELC even though it would be nice to have it. Maybe if my water pump goes out I'll think about changing.

Just a quick update:

Zerex G-05 coolant (Zerex version of the Ford "Gold") is now marketed as meeting the CAT EC-1 rating even though it is a Hybrid OAT coolant. So it looks like the EC-1 rating no longer applies ONLY to a Heavy Duty Organic Acid Tech Extended Life Coolant.

We can no longer tell people to just look for the EC-1 rating on the coolant now when they're trying to find a HD OAT ELC.

Hello everyone. Just picked up a e99 7.3 F350, I am changing all the fluids and I am confused about the coolant. I was in Napa today and they have Zerex G-05, which is rated ASTM D6210. My question is, can I use it or get something else? Thanks

zerez G-05 is a Hybred OAT or HOAT
If you were wanting a OAT coolant then does not contain silicates then no, use something else. ( a list of known brands are in the first post of this thread )

But yes technically you can use use it as it meets fords requirements.

ASTM D16210 is for "fully formulated" coolants, reading the spec it covers the adding of SCA at maintence intervals.

Read full spec here.
ASTM D6210-06 Standard Specification for Fully-Formulated Glycol Base Engine Coolant for Heavy-Duty Engines

A benifit of switching to a OAT ELC is that they last longer before requiring maintence.

Best I can tell the zerex g-05 is good for 150,000 miles before needing SCA and a OAT like Catapillers ELC can go to 300,000 miles before needing an additive and then it is good to 600,000 miles.

Thanks Pirate, still confused but I am going to take these back tomorrow and get the green stuff and a couple pints of the SCA's. I am adding a filter to the system when I do the flush.

Whoa whoa, hold up a minute.

The whole point of the forum is to educate, so if you are still confused just tell us what you need clarification on and we can clear it up.

Fwiw, even if you do stay with the "green coolant" you don't need to add sCA until the first maintence interval and then you use a test strip to determine the PH balance to determine how much SCA to add.

Still confused as I read through the first page, i'm reading that on my early 99 I can use green coolant with the ASTM D4985 rating but have to add SCA and if I use a coolant with the ASTM D6210 rating than that means it's pre-charged with SCA but has to be checked every so often and I can use it. On the silicates, i am not sure if I need them or not.

All the other fluids are pretty easy, but this confuses the heck out of me.

Thanks for all the help on this.
