got my intercooler parts yesterday and i mocked it all up, i like what i see for results now, very cool. how ever, it now cuts out with a heavy load on the truck. i used to have 28~29 lbs of boost, it dropped to 23~24lbs of boost but it cuts out before i can gain anymore. i know i have a few more pin holes to fill but i wanted to see the difference on the way to work. thoes are getting filled tomorro as well as painted up to look pretty. i could never set a CEL for oil before the intercooler. 2,3d gear makes it cut out pretty fast almost like a defueling saftey but it never had that, and its roughly around 3000 rpm. 4th gear pulls hard and 5th is nice but when it cuts out i dont get a check engine light? why would putting on an intercooler cause my hpop to be suddenly weak? it doesnt shutter or run funny, just defuels and then runs fine.
let me know what you think.
all and all it was pretty fun thoe, and i like the results, its challenging to hit 1200egts now unless you really romp on it, 1300 is the highest ive hit so far, pictures will be up tomorro
Its normal for a loss of a few pounds of boost with a intercooler. The cutting out is strange if it didn't before the intercooler install. I was thinking map senor, hpop, doesn't matter because the IC should not make a difference IMHO.
yes i expected a 2-4lb drop in boost, not an issue, how ever with the cutting out, what the hell!? kind of annoying. Its like someone hits a switch and kills the fuel and i can keep my foot there and zero power but holds the rpm, let go and go again till it cuts out again. i didnt touch anything on the truck either, just modded the pipes and slapped them back in. no welding in the truck.
nope still that crap pump, its leaky but holds 64lbs at idol. it never cut out before the install and all of a sudden it is. im not shooting down any ideas, just looking at a logical explanation to why the denser air is causing this
on the plus side it pulls a little harder! lol cant get the full experience becuase it cuts out so fast in the earlier gears no more spiking in the egts either, looks like a stock truck with a chip, goes up slow and incrimentally. well worth the money spent!
That deffinetly sound slike HPOP to me, sounds identical to what happened to me at the track last year. And does the CEL stay on or does it turn off when you gain power back. What I'm thinking is that the I/C put enough pressure on the motor to make it work that much harder and that slight increase is taxing your pump over the limit. IDK if that would make sense but that's what first popped into my head.
Have you relocated your MAP line. It now needs to be taking it's pressure reading from the "hot" side of the intercooler. I put mine in the intercooler pipe just as it exits the turbo. That will also give you lag as well if you don't move it.
x2 on what Neal said. TJ a year or so ago memtioned that and to me it sounded like a good idea. I moved mine to the hot side using a tire value stem and blocked off the stem on the intake where the map was connected.
Neal so What your saying is that becuase there is significantly more lag time that it's messing with the computer readings?
Rich at first I thought it might by hpop but I'm not even getting a light at all and I know my cel works, I've set An oil light once when I first got the truck but I really pushed it
Yes that is what I am saying. When you move it the Map will see boost sooner and will give readings to PCM which in turn will give fuel earlier. No more lag!
Move it to the hot side that may fix it. If it doesn't fix the top end problem atleast it will give you less lag and be safer to drive especially when merging with traffic.
