Redneck motor/trans pull

Here is the scenario: I am a rookie. I have a parts truck that is stranded 150 yards from the road just past a never-drying mudhole and somebody else's yard. I am determined to remove, somehow, the motor and transmission and get them on the ground. Aside from a few sheet metal and interior parts, I want nothing else from this truck. I must park on the road and carry all of my tools thru mud across someone else's yard that has several pitbulls in it. I do not have the luxuries of a hoist, transmission jack, hydraulic jack, cutting torch, or anything like that. The truck is just sitting in the woods. the truck is not parked under a tree and the brakes are locked and the tires flat. (Don't ask how I got it there). I would use the John Deere 4020 but it's in the shop. I have almost removed the front clip to make it easier (?). I removed the hood and radiator and I hope the dogs eat the antifreeze (jk). What is the best course of action? I have never done this before. Basically all I have is a little freetime and a lot of determination. I don't know yet if the motor will turn, if it can I will rebuild it if not I don't know what but I want it out by the end of the summer thanks

is there a tree over it that you can hook a hoist or comalong up to?

How about 2 ladders and a 4 x 4? (Done that not recommended) Can a wrecker with a boom get in there? Can you make up a tri-pod? or a swing set? You would be better off taking engine and trans out separately if you can't get some macinery in there. If engine is froze up I'd pass. Good luck and be safe.

The classic lifting technique would be to rig up a tripod out of three lengths of steel tubing, chained together at the top, and between all three legs at the bottom. You could carry those parts across the field and assemble them over the truck. Then use a chainfall from the top of the tripod.

But, there's a bigger problem....Once you lift up the engine/trans, you have to somehow get the truck out from underneath.

If it were me, I'd just call in a fairly large wrecker and a long length of chain. Drag it out of the field and take it somewhere where you can really work on it. You may be able to sell the rest of it to cover the wrecker fee.

Multiple cans of fix-a-flat, cut the brake lines, unbolt the driveshaft, use a winch

Good luck.

I agree.....cut out any trees/brush in the way and haul that bitch out of there with a cable...or a chain....whatever....you can easily make up the cost in selling parts.....

I would get the truck out if possible. If not, a wooden 2x4 sled with large ABS plastic sheet underneath and a fourwheeler comes to mind.

For some reason it just doesnt seem like a good idea to leave an entire vehicle sitting there, but i guess i understand why you can find random cars in the woods in the oddest of places.

If the truck got back there on its own power, you should be able to get it back out. Whether it be a winch or another truck

You said in your posting you want it out by the end of the summer it's MAY how long is that John Deere 4020 going to be in the shop if they are that slow post this place so no one else will have to suffer with long term repairs this would put many people under a John Deere in the shop just does not sound right kinda like saying the Astros [LASTROS] are a pro baseball team

Might be a matter of shoes seized to drums. I had that problem with a parts truck I was picking up. Had to use a sledge hammer to bust up the drums.

thanks everybody, i think i am going to wait to pull the motor til the tractor is fixed and scrap the rest all at one time lol. The tractor is my dads and he is working on it himself. He broke off one of the spark plugs that is rusted in really bad, and that is about as easy a project as the one I have. but thats a whole nother story. If the 302 is locked up I wont mess with it but I havnt been back out to look yet. Thanks again!
