Hi Everyone!

My husband & I just bought a 66 F100 from one of his buddies in Aug. His buddy was going to have a junk yard take it for $200, so my husband gave him the $200 and we had it towed home. I tried to download pics but I keep getting a message about a security key...who knows.

Anyway....the truck was parked in 92 because it was burning oil.....hasn't been run since. So far we removed all the external trim and washed it and removed the oxidation with TR3. This last weekend we removed the radiator hoses....and tried to flush the radiator....it had a bunch of rust in the bottom. We sprayed the motor down with lots and lots of degreaser....it's filthy!!!! I've managed to find some of the numbers....on the front of the motor to the right of where the fan attaches I found the number 352 with the number 22 above it. 352 is the motor type...have no idea what the 22 is about. Also on the top between the spark plug coil cover and the air filter I found some more numbers...have no idea what they mean....at the top just below filter it's stamped 5 F, then about an inch below that is the number 569. (looks to be on an oval plate type deal that I think screws in...not sure) and lastly below that # I found C5AE9425B Can anyone clue me into what these mean or are they parts numbers???? Where do I find the transmission number?? Still scraping layers of crud from under the motor...so if that's where it's at....I just havn't botten down to it yet...lol

My vin # F10YR732788
Transmission A
Rear Axle ratio 08
WB 129
Ext. paint J
trim E
Body type 81
District/Special Equip code 74

I don't know if this is the original motor or not...the number on top doesn't match vin....but I don't know if that means much.
I know it's a V8, manual transmission, 4 speed, it has a weird air filter....filled with oil (my dad said it is an air filter and told me not to play with it) so I don't know if that was standard or an after market add on/upgrade.

Since it hasn't been run in so many years....we figure we replace all hoses, belts, some of the wiring that is frayed or damaged in the motor boy (including spark plug wires, battery cables, etc..), new spark plugs, oil filter, fuel filter, and probably pull off the carb. / head and check to make sure they're clean and of course replace seals.... Anything else we need to check before we try to fire it up???? We removed the gas tank behind the seat and it's in perfect shape....I think there is dual tanks...havn't crawled underneath yet to look at the other one. Plus I'll jerk out the alt. and have it checked.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.....having fun so far....tearing stuff apart is always fun...

Your motor is most likely a 352, most FE engines have the 352 stamping on the front like you mention inlcusing the 352, 360, 390, and even my 428. You VIN indicates that the truck originally was equipped with the 352 V8. The C5 in that part number means that part (probably the intake manifold)was first used in the 1965 model year and if you look down at the bottom of the engine block near the oil pan underneath the oil filter you'll find the date code of when the engine block was produced. On the passenger side of the engine block towards the front(most likely under years of grime) youll find another one of those casting numbers. From everything you stated, it sounds like the truck still has the original 352. Ford engines do not use VIN numbers to match to the chassis like GM. The air cleaner is an oil bath unit, very common back then. Enjoy your truck, it's a keeper!

Nearly all FE blocks have a “352” cast in front like this. This does not mean you’'ve found a 352. Even the 427 and 428 blocks are marked 352. Look for FE casting date codes just below the oil filter mount on the left-hand side of the block

F10 - 2wd f100 5000lb gvw
Y - 352 2v, 208hp @ 4400
R - San Jose, California
732788 - August 1965

Transmission A - 3 spd manual light duty - someone swapped in that 4spd
Rear Axle ratio 08 - 3.50
WB 129 - lwb
Ext. paint J - Rangoon Red
trim E - Red Crush Vinyl & Red Cody Pattern Woven Plastic
Body type 81 - Custom Cab
DSO 74 - Seattle, Washington: Covered Alaska, Washington and Northern Oregon

C5 -65
A -Full sized ford cars
E -from Mahwah, NJ
9425 - intake manifold?
B -first revision

1965-72 352/360/390's as used in F100/350's all use the same 2V intake manifold, You should find block numbers perhaps if you wish to know what engine might be in there. Should be below the oil filter mount on the left-hand side of the block.

weird air filter....filled with oil
- yep oil bath filter, was a stock item

the number on top doesn't match vin....but I don't know if that means much
- actually a c5 casting would be correct, it was assembled in august 1965
You picked up your truck right on it's 44th birthday

Looks like you have good info on the ID already. Go into your CP, look up at the blue bar, and start a garage, and a album. We can see your photos at anytime by clicking your user name.

Sounds like you have a project there. Get plenty of ziplock bags and labels and mark up everything good that you take off.

Don't expect a lot from the engine. One that has sat for that long very likely has rust inside from climate change. A rebuild or replacement might be a good way to get started.

Also the 73-76 F100 is a perfect donor for power disc brakes and power steering. A suggestion, find a donor 73-76 with a 360, and the type tranny that you would like to have, buy it and use parts from it to add creature comforts to your 66.

Figure on a 2 year project, and you can keep a better frame of mind.

732788 = 1966, assembled August 1965.

Transmission A - 3 spd manual light duty - In-correct. someone swapped in that 4spd No, they did not.

A = NEW PROCESS 435 4 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION.

If originally equipped with a 3 speed manual, the TRANS code would be: C

Warranty Plate AXLE code 08: Ford 9 inch Rear Axle / 3.50-1 / non Limited Slip / 3300 lb. Rear Axle Capacity.

DSO 74: Seattle WA Ford District Sales Zone Office, where the original selling dealer ordered the truck from.

C5 -65
A -Full sized ford cars
C5AE-9425-B is an ID engineering number, does not mean that the manifold was used on full sized Ford cars only.

E -from Mahwah, NJ Incorrect
E refers to engineering. It does not refer to the Mahwah NJ Assembly Plant.

9425 - intake manifold?
9425 = ID basic number for an intake manifold. The actual Ford basic part number is 9424.

B -first revision Second revision, the first would be an A.
Whatever decode book you are using has wrong info.

Thanks for all the information. We live in a desert....so we don't get alot of climate changes....dry and hot in summer and cold and frozen in the winter....lol....it's not Seattle....we don't get much rain....lol

We figured we'd get an idea of what the motor looks like inside when we pull off the head, but we're still a little bit away from that point.....still in the scraping of the grease and grime stage...lol I figure the radiator was full of rust because when the previous owner parked it, he didn't drain any of the fluids....they just sort of evaporated/drained/leaked away due to time.

If the motor is still in decent shape then we'll keep it stock (for now). If it isn't usabable/fixable...my dad already suggested a motor, but I don't remember which one.... Dad is into Fords too...he has a restored 34 and is almost finished with restoring the 37. So hopefully I can use some of his contacts/knowledge when doing this project. I'd like to do as much as I can myself....think it's more interesting....dad pays others to do the wrench work. Besides it gives me the perfect excuse to buy more tools!!!!

I'll look (clean & scrape) down around the oil filter for more numbers when I get time..... I'll also try again to upload pics

Thanks again guys!!
