used a/c today for the first time today in my 96 f150 4.9l. I noticed after driving for a few minutes that t he termp guage was up about 3/4 of the way and it usually stays right in the middle. would the a/c cause it to run hotter for some reason?
Yes it can tend to make one run a little warmer but first is this stop and go traffic, more "stop" then "go"? or during a fairly steady cruise with little to no stopping involved?
If so, more stop then go type driving, it may be time for a new cooling fan clutch.
Yes it was stop and go. I'm hoping the water pump i put on two months ago isn't going up. I'll see if it happens again tomorrow i guess. Btw, coolant is full.
Ditto on the fan. You NEED air through the rad/condensor for positive results. Either go hi-way speeds, or get a bad politician to stand in front of yer rig.

A politician will NOT work,, that would be HOT air!!!! He needs cool air!!
To the OP X on the fan clutch.. You will probably get the usual electric fan recommendation, but in my opinion unless you are at a drag strip it will not save any gas or give extra horsepower (except @ WOT), just remember the alternator has to provide power for the extra electric load.. Therefore the load will be transfered from the mechanical fan to the alternator.
