you know, i figured one day this was gonna happen. i was all but positive the previous owner had 0 idea about using sca's in his cooling system or know what cavitation was.... well, im paying the price now. just found out im the latest victim of it. replaced my oil cooler o rings again (rebuilt mine this time) and all seals look good.
no oil in the coolant, no raise in the oil level after 20 minutes of driving... happy me! i decide to do a pressure test of my cooling system while im at it make sure theres no coolant getting into the oil without the oil pressure holding it back and BAM, i hear noise coming from my intake manifold. i took off the top hat while im running new pipes for the intercooler. cover it with my hand and it hushes. release the pressure from the cooling system and it stops. truck runs great, no pressure from a blown head gasket. DAMN
looking into getting my engine rebuilt. sleeve those cylinders OR just rebuild my spare turbo engine.
ya, no guarantee that theres not cavitation on that engine as well
i know it was running great when it was pulled, but mine was running great just 2 hours ago lol
I just got my hands on a complete 86 f250 for 400. 6.9l auto 2wd. Gonna pull the engine and scrap the rest. Rebuild that instead. But some block seal in mine and run it til it dies
If your engine develops cavitation, you will get water in the oil. And depending on where the piston on the bad cylinder stops when you shut it off it will hydro lock when you go to start it. At least that what my 90 did at 119000 miles, befor I found this forum.
im getting oil in the water. and my cylinder is filling with water but only under compression. and it hydrolocked. i had to pull the glowplug to get the water out. #7 cylinder. hey, atleast its not under the turbo huh?
OK, so i just got my hands on a 6.9 and ive got my cavitation block 7.3. heres my plans
arp head studs
ceramic coated pistons
moose pump
moose injectors
factory ford turbo with ats turn down and down pipe.
since i can pull whatever i want off my 7.3l, what should i transfer over? ive heard the 6.9 rockers are junk, but should i just transfer the 7.3l heads over totally?
any info and suggestions would be great. thanks....
