Yep, the filter was filled as far as I could before getting it spun up there. Had oil pressure within a second or so. Sucking out the HPOP tomorrow and refilling with fresh oil.
Thanks.

If you have already run the truck then chances are the HPOP has already been flushed.

The HPOP isn't a sealed system with its own oil, it is fed by the LPOP so if you've started the truck you've probably already completely filled it with your new oil. The consensus around here is don't even bother anyway, it isn't worth the trouble and I agree.

Agreed. I don't bother flushing mine, there's really no point.

Yep.. Run 5w40 year round.. Once the engine is warm the "40" number is the important number... the "5" is the viscosity when the oil is cold..
I suck my HPOP.. it only takes a few minutes.. I just don't like to leave that extra quart of dirty oil in the system.. My next project is figure out how to suck the oil cooler.. Do any of you guys out there do that ?

Looks like I won't worry about the HPOP. From reading some posts here, it seemed some were finding gunky oil in it even after an oil change and was thinking the circulation was low enough to warrant changing it out. Maybe not. Next oil change, I'll probably suck it out as part of the procedure. It'll take a long time for me to build mileage on it though.
Thanks.

There is an 1/8" NPT plug just above where the filter mounts. I've never removed it while on the truck but you could remove that and see how much oil drains out. That is where I plan to put an oil temp sender.

Number 8 in this diagram.

The Delo oil you have pictures is being used by many on this forum in their 7.3s, the Wix filter is also being used by some as well-some report their engines like the Delo oil better than anything else-we all recomend staying AWAY from FRAM filters.

I personally run Shel Rotella 5w40 Synthetic with a Purolator "PURE ONE" filter.

First I have heard of this?
I run Rotella...
So, FRAM is 'junk'?

Yes, Fram ranks amongst the lowest quality oil filters. Cheap construction, fewer pleats, etc. There was a comparison posted a while back but I cannot locate it.

It's a lot of reading, but a lot of information, too.

That's the one! Thanks for putting that up Pop, that's a great study. Tried to rep 'ya but couldn't.
