Did anyone see the Pumpkin shooting program on the Discovery channel last night? I had heard some stuff about this earlier. These things are shooting squash almost 4000ft. I've built potato guns before, but these things are massive. They are pulled in by dump trucks or school buses.
i saw it, it was on after the mower racing show. i thought they said they shot a pumpkin 500ft short of a mile. if so, thats insane! those folks got alot free time and money on their hands.
A tresbuchet is something I've been meaning to build. Have a neat simulation program for determining lever lengths etc ..
The fella that snapped the driveshaft cracked me up. That was a good show.
Where did you pick up the simulation? Is that the same as a catapult?
Yeah, I'm alright. I just don't like it when some one changes something on here that really doesn't need to be. I'll get over that though. Just like mountains and mudholes.

I think a trebuchet uses a counter weight where as a catapult uses tension like a bow.
a rich guy in urope built a trebuchet so big he can launch compact cars a few hundred feet. not to mention pianos, couches, you name it. it operates by using a sling on one end, and a huge weight on the other end, they use a TRACTOR to get the weight upwards in the air, and release it with some sort of trigger.
DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS AT HOME !!!!
( do it at the neighboors house !!!!!!!!!!! )
Downloaded the simulation package off the internet. Search Tresbuchet simulation on google you should get a link showing several packages. Have a sawmill(hobby) I use to cut timbers for framing every pumpkin season we say were going to put a tresbuchet together to launch a few. (Theres a 10 acre pumpkin patch across the road).
There was one small part of the program where some folks from an engineering firm, frustrated with a p.c. printer, sent it flying to it's final fate. I got a chuckle out of that since I've had to overhaul about 300 of the same model when they all started having problems. Hmmm, I have this growing stack of dead monitors.....
