i just picked up a 78 bronco, and it is pretty much bone stock under the hood. it has a bajillion vacuum lines and other emissions junk under the hood that i would like to get rid of. i haven't had a carburated truck to work on in about 5-6 years, so i don't remember what stays and what goes. all of my old truck were stripped down to bare bones, just what it needed to be functional, and that is my goal for this truck. i was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a diagram that shows what all can be removed or plugged off so i can clean up and simplify this trucks motor. any help would be appreciated, thanks-dan
tear all that **** off and screw those emission laws, they dont check em here anyway, one line does the vacume for the tranny to shift, one line will do your vacuum advance on the dist., one out the back of the manifold will do the brake booster, some might do the heater core, to open and shut the doors, and the rest might be usless. one for sure makes the spark retarted, its called a vac something and makes the motor a dog, spark delay I think it is, and one goes to your pvc valve that you need
i live in rural illinois, no testing, and even if there was i believe 79 and older are exempt in my state. regardless, it will run better and get better mileage without all of the junk on it. i am not concerned with federal law, as the government ceased to exist years ago in my book. so treat this as an "offroad only" question if my feelings towards emissions equipment bothers you morally.
hey rick, you wouldn't happen to have a 2bbl carb that is in working condition, would you? i am about to rebuild the carb, but i have never cracked one open, and am a little hesitant to do so.
yeah, but i don't need a whole motor, just a carb. when it is running, it is nice and tight with no smoke and feels good and strong. i might still end up with timmy pratts old shortbed for a few hundred, if he sells his house soon, he has no where to put it. it has all rebuilt drivetrain and a good 4'' lift, as well as all the other spares i could rape off of it.
ic, did you ever here of that truck though, it used to be jj's old brown truck, said sabotta down in mcnabb did the motor for it some years back, I tried to run it but the carb was junk, so rebuilt it but never ran it and gave it back to him
no, i'm just interested in getting this 351 running right so i can drive it, and find a 460 to build for it over time. no replacement for displacement. otherwise i would just get a 4bbl and intake and start upgrading, but i would rather just sink cash into a big block.
Well, if people don't post up soon I'll post some pics in a couple weeks when I get around to messing with the 86 351w I have. I'm putting it in my '74 supercab so the smog pump, etc. will be coming off.
I'm not positive what all will be removed yet and was hoping someone would post up here so I can get an idea. If not it'll be a trail and error type run
ronzi posted in my bronco thread in 4x4, and he pretty much said the same as highlife about what vacuum lines are needed. i'm sure it won't be too hard to figure out like you said, trial and error, but i am a simpleton and prefer pictures and diagrams
well, I could send ya a pic of mine if it helps any, most of the stuff is in the same spot, only thing is I dont have the huge *** heater core that goes in the way on the pass side
