I was wondering if any of you had used VHT flameproof paint on your IC pipes and if you followed the curing instructions VHT provides? I'm planning on paint my IC pipes, spider, and compressor housing and while the compressor housing and spider might fit in the oven there's no way the pipes will. Does anyone have some alternate idea to do the curing process for the pipes? Also I plan on priming then painting everything.
I have used it with no issues, I cleaned everything very well and just let the truck heat up on a small ride, then let it cool down, looks and works great! I did use the white primer they offer, then the silver.
I did the same for mine, just yesterday. Only suggestion is get a Self Etching Primer for the aluminum IC pipes, it will help the paint to adhere better.
So you didn't bother with the curing process at all with the VHT paint on the IC pipes?
Did you just apply primer, let dry, apply paint, let dry, put on truck and run?
Even if the paint is dry it will not be hard until it is cured. I took a TON of vht flameproof off my exhaust housing just by it rubbing on the hood cowl a little on the way in and sitting on it when I was unmasking it. I cured it per instructions and it seems very durable now although the turbo is back out for other reasons so my spare exhaust housing is getting painted and baked in the meanwhile.
what temp do you need to bake at? on a hot sunny day you could make a small shantee out of a dark colored tarp or sheet. you could see 150 degrees or better, might try that.

Yes I primed and painted without a cure in between I had it all apart while I was rebuilding my turbo, they are holding up very well. I have used the paint before on some exhaust with excellent success, I prefer it over the silver I use to buy at Eastwoods.
Easy way to cure VHT if used on a IC pipe- run a length of wire through it- uncoated wire- hang it up to soemthing, I hung mine off a screwdriver jammed in my garage door frame while it was open. Spray the IC tube, or whatever part you want, then after it's fairly dry, heat it from the inside with a propane (or mapp gas) torch. Not too much, just enough to get it pretty dan warm to the touch. That oughta get it set right.
