I had a cherry 1997 f250ld 5.4 3.73 gears that I sold to get a p/u with a 460 to pull
my 27ft T/T. Everytime I want something for the truck my wife goes nut because
she hasnt been happy since I got rid to the 97. She calls it a piice of junk. I cant
affort a Banks system, my try to do something with the exhause system, How critical
is the upper manifold. I had a rebuilt long block with less than 3000 miles, so I used all
of the topside equipment off the old engine.
I picked up a 91 ford f250 Fuel injected 460, it is a 4 wheel drive 3/4 ton. I bought it a couple of weeks ago so far I have been getting 9 miles per gallon. That is babying it. I havent loaded it up yet so I dont know what it will do loaded. I heard these 460 engines use the same amount of gas loaded or unloaded. I hope so because I don't look foward to 6 miles per gallon when the gas prices rise again.
what are you loading on it? i still havnt put anything in my 93 f250 efi that made it drop more than 1 mpg. i had a 26' travel trailor behind it and i was puttin my foot in it pretty good and was gettin 7 or 8 and i usually got 8.5 or 9.

lol...ya banks is spendy. some exhaust work might help. a new muffler and cat or something. i dont believe the upper plenum has to be to specific to the truck, as long is opens up air flow i would think. im not positive though so dont hold me to that. try buying/building(not hard if you have the tools) a cold air intake box for it.
I am pulling a coachman 27ft fiberglass approx wt 6500-7000
ive never heard of anyone pulling a trailor like that getting more than 8 or 9. my dad sold rvs for a few years too and he never met anyone with a 460 that got any better towing. im sure its possible but spendy. with the 460 your pretty much stuck with extreme hatred of gas stations.
