PCM replaced

OK, got the reman PCM in. The fuel pump acts like it should now and code pulling went perfectly. I drove it a bit and it seemed to run smoothly but it still shifted a bit harshly, tho maybe not as bad as before. Got three codes:

332 insufficient EGR flow

624 and 637 tranny codes that I had before, so no help there.

I have installed an EGR eliminator and didn't have that code before, so don't know what's up with that.

I guess that I'm going to follow along with the test procedures outlined by DanR and SubFord on that other guys thread and make sure it's not a wiring or connector problem.

Right now tho, I gotta get this thing over to the glass guy. I had had a new windshield installed last month and it has developed a crack in the lower driver side corner. I've barely driven the truck so it's not a rock chip. But I need to get it squared away before whatever warranty there is runs out. I hate to drive it very far while it's still screwing up but need to do this.
About 20 mi. each way.

By the way, thanks AndyM for advising me about the PCM.

No problem. Glad you got it sorta fixed.

Did you replace it with an identical PCM?

Good question.

The one I from the truck that I had to give in exchange was an F2TF-****** -PB.

The one I got in return had all Ford stickers removed, only had a sticker with the remans part number. Got it through O'rielly's and they list both Cardone and BWD as suppliers.

Didn't really care for that as it will complicate things if the PCM ever needs replacing again. I think that I will put a sticker of my own on it when I take it back apart for testing.

It seems to be working ok. Truck started right up, ran smooth, cruise worked. Still got the shift problem so I guess something else is wrong there. I've been following along on a couple other tranny threads and subford and danr1 have posted some great schematics, test procedures, and troubleshooting advice, so maybe I can track down the problem. Hopefully it's something easy and cheap to fix.

OK, yesterday I took the MLPS off and cleaned and tested it. All the resistances were right in the middle of the spec ranges. Cleaned the connectors and put in plenty of dielectric grease. Saw no moisture or dirt in there. Didn't check the wire continuity yet as I don't think this plug is my problem. The codes don't mention anything about the MLPS. Just wanted to eliminate it as a possibility. And it was easy to get to.

Put it back together, aligned my neutral marks, and test drove. Still shifting sorta hard. Not real bad if driven normally in OD. But major thump if shifted manually, especially if you tach it up a bit. In all gears.

Today I'll do the plug on the other side.

Woo Hoo!

That helped a lot. Unplugged the passenger side connector and cleaned it as best I could. The part on the tranny is very hard to get to, or even see, but I did my best with some q-tips and some electrical contact cleaner. By feel.

The wire harness part was easy. Just cleaned the outside and soaked a toothpick in electric cleaner and gently probed the holes, then sprayed them out. Laid on a bunch of dielectric grease and managed to get it plugged back in clean the first try.

It shifted fine after that initially but after driving a bit it started the intermittant hard shifting. So I'm pretty sure it's that plug. The clips that hold it together are broken and I suspect that vibration, bouncing and wind resistance on the harness are causing an unsecure connection. I'll try to find a new one or hit the junkyard for a servicable one.

At least now I know it's not an internal tranny problem. May have to drop the exhaust to do it right.

I tried to clean that connector once and fought with it for a half and hour. Never did get it off. You did better than I did.
