Riffraff Plenum inserts FTW!!!

I don't "beat on" or race my truck, but I do like to tinker, and after taking my intake spider off and on a few times, I was concerned about over-tightening the plenum clamps. Then I found out about the Plenum Inserts from Riffraff. Simple, solid engineering for a problem. I ordered them last Christmas but due to weather, moving, and then not being able to find them, I just put them in last Saturday.

You're not going to get a change like you will with good tunes, but it's nice to not have to worry about going too tight in such an inconvenient spot. Bonus is that I might have had a very slight boost leak there, but with getting everything cleaned up, re-aligned, and put back together tight, I've been getting on her a bit and my mileage has gone up just a hair. I know the lie-o-meter is just that, but the relative changes have proven quite accurate for me.

If you're going to be swapping turbos, up-pipes, or just have 2 hours and less than $100 to spare, you can't go wrong with these inserts. You'll never wonder if you can go just a bit tighter to avoid a leak, and to me, that's money well spent.

Thanks Clay!!

Mine are still in the box waiting for me to make time to install them. They are almost too pretty to hide in the intake.

Good deal Brendan. I think I will get me a set for the next time I take my spider off.

I also just installed mine, yesterday as a matter of fact while doing an HPOP R&R. I re-installed with t-bolt clamps. I agree, these inserts hold up to a good tightening. I did find that the stock plenums were a bit deformed and had to work on them a little to get them back to being round enough to get the inserts installed. I'm sure glad Roland (Mueckster) posted a tip about using a cotter pin puller as an aid to getting the spider back in the boots. It certainly made the job easier.

I purchased a set of the plenum inserts, as well. I talked with Clay, recently, and will be getting the rest of his boots before installing them and my RR. I already had the IC boots for my 6.0 IC install. He is going to fix me up with the rest of them. Thanks Clay.

Robin, I'm glad something I said was useful to someone. lol I've been using a cotter pin puller for hose removal and installation for years. I've even used it to pull cotter pins a few times.

I once changed a tire using that little tab used to open a Miller Lite 10oz can. That, or maybe I opened a few too many of those cans.

That was a great tip Roland. I bought the cotter pin puller about five months ago when I got the inserts. Haven't used it on cotter pins yet. But have used it on hoses and boots.

Yeah, well I broke into my own truck one time using just a quarter Seriously. Some "thugs" broke into my S10 blazer at orientation to college, and used a scredriver to jimmy the lock cylinder. I was a cheap college student, and just put some JB weld around it. After all, there was nothing to steal now that they got my stereo. One night I had locked my keys inside, and wedged a quarter out of my pocket underneath the cylinder and leveraged it out. My buddy was dumbfounded. Only persont to ever break into a vehicle with a 25 cent piece I also broke into my old jeep cherokee one drunken night using a friends house key, but that's another story.

I had to get a set of the inserts as soon as I saw that Clay had them available. It immediately struck me as a GREAT idea knowing how thin and frigile the stock plenums are. That's why Ford has standard worm gear clamps there and not t-bolt. The set I installed went in like a greased pig (it took a little tapping with a soft headed hammer ) but the worm gear clamps never saw the truck again and now sports t-bolts on all the boots.
