Budd wheels?????

Ok, so nothing ever goes easy or as to plan when I am involved. Anywho, I am replacing the tires on my farm truck a 1998 F250. Just a farm truck never on the highway so I am not worried about balancing but more interested in cussing, fussing, sweating my a** off and saving $40 to have some replacement tires installed. Anyways, got the left rear done no problem. Move to the right rear and this rim as always had me puzzled but never spent any time investigating it. First hint something is different is when I have to remove a ring from the outside of the rim. I notice some writing on the rim so I use a wire brush and learn this is a Budd "DUO" wheel 16x5.5". Search the internet and all I can find is wheel weights and references to old truck that used Budd wheels but all the pictures I see none match what I have. I have included some pictures hoping someone will know a little bit about these wheels. I have removed the old tire and found it used a tube. Being cheap I would like to reuse this rim but don't want to use a tube. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's a split rim. They are not even made anymore. Do yourself a favor and get an updated wheel. If you have any more split rims, change them also.

Split rims require the use of a tube. The tube MUST be centered in the tire and have no creases or folds. The ring on split rims has over the years caused a lot of damage, injury's and death when not seated properly and the tire/wheel not caged when airing up the tire. Pressure comes up and ring flies off under that pressure. There's no telling where the ring is going to go.

That said, split rims have in the past gone many millions of millions of miles but with the new wheels with little chance of injury, just put the right wheels on the truck!

I think there's a slightly different bolt circle on the old rims. I'd get rid of the split rim. I know a guy who's dad was killed when one came apart. Do you have a spare?

Thanks for the input guys. This is the first time I have seen a rim like this. Lucky for me this is the only 1 on the truck. I will be calling around for another steel stock wheel. Thanks again.
