i have a 2009 screw, 4.6 3v, 3.55, 2wd. we tow a 7000lb travel trailer at least 2 times a month on trips camping. the manual says change the tranny fluid at about 50k. i have 25k and some change. with the heavy trailer weight and extra use of the tranny, should i change it now, and if so, has anyone done this themselves? my one year service plan just expired with the dealer and i don't want to get hosed on labor at the dealer. thanks
Seems like the way to do it is to have it flushed. My Ford dealer here I think wants 145 to do it. It is the only way to get all the fluid out.
But, I don't think I would do yours yet. I would probably wait until 40 and then do it.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. It's been said here that the owner's manual states to change the fluid at 100K mile interval for normal use and 60K miles for severe use which is constant heavy towing.
Since there's no dip stick, it's pretty tough to put your finger on the pulse and get a good idea of what the fluid looks and smells like.
Considering that Ford took the ability to manage our transmission maintenance away from us, I'd say that your still well within warranty and drive her until she's been deemed necessary by Ford's owner's manual to flush the transmission.
Or,
Spend $150.00 dollars well before it's time. Peace of mind is priceless.

i have never gone by mileage...it has always been by smell and look of the fluid...that is piece of mind to me
Just follow the book, if you think you are in sever service change it when it says if not wait. Most everything that people where used to doing years ago, like looking or smelling of fluid and so on are out the door these days. Technology has taken over and better quality fluids than back in the 70-80's. Just my take, take or leave as you feel.

just a thought, could n't you just drain and fill it yourslef. you would get some of the fluid out. I did not think that the tranny flushes were good to do.
