I have a 2002 7.3L Super Duty. This weekend when towing up hill there was a beeping noise coming from under the dash. The fan clutch was engaged and I was at three quarted throttle. After I crested the hill and leveled out the noise stopped. Any Idea where this beeping noise is coming from or what it's trying to tell me?
Thanks

do you have a brake controller with a self leveler?
Welcome to FTE. I'm not familiar with any beeping noise the truck should be making. Can you describe the tone better? Did it sound anything like any of the factory warnings like key in the ignition, door open, etc? How steep was the hill and how low was your fuel tank? Could it have been the low fuel warning chiming on and off due to the angle of the hill?
Any aftermarket stuff installed that might beep at you?
chris my guess was his brake controller was going off because the unit was not leveled or something, it happened in my buddies truck way back when we used to go to the shore all the time, every time we took it it went off on the hill. idk though, just me .02
Fuel was full and I do have a Brake controller but it's been in the truck since it was new and have not heard that noise before. The beep is not loud and if you had the radio turned up you may not hear it. I towed a 26ft. toy box in January and didn't hear it. This is strange. Thanks for you help.
My 2002 dually does the same thing. Usually it happens when it is trying to shift to overdrive. I have had it do it without trying to shift like going down the interstate towing a 4horse and trying to maintain speeds over 75 mph (4.11 gear rear). I think it might be related to the torque converter?? or transmission. I've got 225,000 miles but only bought the truck in 8 months ago......
I still haven't heard the noise. I don't see how it could be torque converter related, but since I don't have a torque converter, maybe that's why I've never heard it.
ok, so I'm not losing my mind...I have also heard a few beeps from under my dash while pulling a grade with a load. It only happened on one particular trip, and I could never trace where the beep came from.
Sounded like it came from the pcm area....but who knows...I forgot all about it until I read this.
Yup franko. mine is under the dash too but awful tough to tell at 73 mph.
I remember pulling into a rest area shortly after the I heard the beeps 2-3 times, and the truck had a rough idle. After I napped a few hrs it ran fine, and I haven't heard the beeps since. Whether or not they're related I have no clue.
We had the same beepin on my buddys 99 F450 Rollback ! It was a manual trans. We never did fig out where the hell it was coming from! Also at auction I test drove a Expedition and it did it to??It sounded like a weak warning beep !
so we are not all crazy. It seems this happens on both aut o and manual trucks. Could it be related to something on the engine? It would be nice to keep this thread alive until the guy comes along and says, oh, yes! Thats a simple problem just blah blah blah under the dash and its all set. I just fear that the sound we hear under the dash is a symptom of a problem somewhere else.
This is the "conspiracy theory" thread
I'm gonna do some Googling, and get to the bottom of this.
EDIT, I found this:
"PROVE-OUT SYSTEM PROCEDURE
Prove-out system means to turn the ignition switch from OFF to RUN and visually monitor the airbag indicator. The airbag will light continuously for approximately six seconds and then turn off. If an airbag system fault is present, the indicator will either fail to light, remain lit continuously or light in a flashing manner. The flashing manner may not occur until approximately 30 seconds after the ignition switch has been turned from OFF to RUN. This is the time required for the diagnostic monitor
to complete the testing of the airbag system. If the airbag indicator is inoperative and an airbag system fault exists, a tone will sound in a pattern of five sets of five beeps. If this occurs, the airbag indicator will need to be serviced before further diagnosis can be done."
I don't remember 5 beeps, but I may have missed the first few from the radio being on

Well this is good to know. Thanks for digging this up Frank.
