New Excursion owner

Good morning everyone! I recently bought a 2003 Excursion Limited with the 7.3 Powerstroke in it. I needed something with more torque to pull my Grady White with.

My previous vehicle was a GMC Yukon Denali. My wife drove the X this weekend and made a comment regarding how dim the headlights are. Keep in mind that the Denali has projector headlights on it.

I don't want to install projectors on the X, but I would like a reasonable headlight upgrade that will not break the bank either. I am mechanically inclined so I can replace bulbs as I have done this on other Fords that I have owned. I have read some blogs regarding the HID upgrades and each has their own opinion. I am not looking to make my headlights blue just so it looks cool, I am looking for the best way to make the road ahead of me brighter. Pulling a 27 Foot boat at 3 AM is no fun if you cannot see in front of you!!

So, I am open to suggestions and WHERE to get them from. I dont mind Ebay and I dont mind buying them from a website either.

I look forward to learning a lot from everyone regarding the X as this is the biggest Ford that I have ever owned. I have owned numerous F150's and Expeditions over the past 20 years and even throw in a Ranger here and there!

Email me here or at stephendudra@Yahoo.com.

Also, anyone have the second row captain's chairs they would like to part with?????

Thanks!

First, make sure your lenses are still clear and not "fogged" from being sandblasted by highway debris. If the lenses are good, an inexpensive but significant improvement is to replace the bulbs with a set of Sylvania Silver Stars. They aren't H.I.D. but they were a big improvement from stock.

Since you have an '03, you already have the Crystaline headlights; with that in mind, head down to wal-mart or Autozone and pick up some Sylvania Silver Stars. 9007 for the headlights and 9005 for the fogs

I agree with the Silver Stars. Good luck finding the second row Captain's chairs! If you find some and are looking to get rid of your second row bench, I'd be very interested if it is tan leather!

Welcome, I have had my ex for about a month now and it is really growing on me.

I almost bought an EL expy also, because my folks have one and that power 3rd row seat is really nice. Plus that car drives sweet and gets about 17 mpg to boot.

Happy with Ex

I appreciate the suggestions regarding the new bulbs. However, I was hoping to hear from some people that have installed the HID's and maybe some tips and tricks, cost and where to get.......

PLEASE?

I have a line on my captains chairs...... :-) Who needs or wants a bench?

Tips? Don't install HID in non-projector beam housings. Your fellow drivers will appreciate it as those stray beams from non-projector beam housings WILL blind oncoming traffic.

No, non-projector beam housings will still have some light above the adjustment line. Projector beams have a distinct cut-off pattern with NO light above the adjustment line.

Has anyone experienced this described above? If so, what have you done to resolve the issue?

PLEASE help! The wife isnt happy since she has projectors in her Infiniti and my Denali has them also.

Here's what I'm talking about.

Here's a picture of HIDs in non-projector beam housings:

Here's some in projector beams:

All of that dimmer light around the bright beam pattern on the first picture is doing nothing but blinding oncoming traffic.

Projectors are usually sold with their own housings unless you want to fab up your own custom job.
