Edge Insight config

I've been playing with my new gadget for a week now. All the previous threads here were very helpful in my decision to buy this thing. It really is a very cool toy.

Now that I have it initially setup, maybe we can discuss parameters a little more. Below is what I have settled on to start with. These are screen shots of the software setup.

Here are my 4 screens, with #1 being my normal view.

I am particularly interested in parameters which might be more imporant than LOAD, SHFT SPD, and OUTSHFT SPD. Load doesn't seem to be of much value, and with Input Shaft Speed and Output Shaft Speed I was trying to determine torque converter slip/lock and perhaps commanded gear. But these parameter don't really give me that in a useful form. Anyone have a better idea? I would be happy to give up Fuel Economy too, as it is not of much use either. Looking for some better ideas if you have them.

Here are my initial alarms. I set these just now, so haven't had a chance to work with them at all. I'm pretty sure these are the parameters that I should monitor, but how do the values look?

Bill,

I've been thinking about guages for quite some time and am now leaning to the Insight or Dashdaq. I need to do some more research but your screen shots were very helpful. I like what I see and am now really getting interested. What steered you to the Insight?

As far as alarms, my truck makes 28 psi of boost stock and always has. So I'd be more inclined to set the initial threshold at 28 psi, the second threshold at 30 psi, and the alarm threshold at 32 psi. I don't know about the other parameter thresholds and am eager to hear other's inputs.

The two very most important items You should monitor on the 6.O are: EOT (Engine oil temp) and ECT (Engine coolant temp) There should not be more than a 15* differance in either ie... ect is at 185* therefore eot should never exceed 200*. If it does exceed that spread it may be time for an oil cooler. JMHO. Take Care!

I wanted an OBD monitor simply because I didn't want to string a bunch of secondary sensors on the truck. That was the first decision. Once that decision was made, I liked both the Dashdaq and the Edge Insight. The Dashdaq costs about twice as much, but I could swallow that. What really swung me over to the Edge was the simple EGT port and the dash pod. Dashdaq is really missing the boat by not offering any good mounting options. They are all good of course, but that was my thought process in a nutshell.

Bill, mine pretty much stays on the same you have for screen #1 setup, except I have Boost in place of IAT. Great little device...even better, I don't have to plug in my Innova ScanTool when this has its own built in diagnostic scanner.

I was thinking of moving boost to the primary page, even though I already have the OEM boost gage on my '06.

Question that I haven't seen covered in the manual - if I am monitoring screen #1 for example, and a parameter on page #2 exceeds my alert points, will the Insight still alert me, by changing color or changing screen? I suspect it will beep, but my poor ears in these loud trucks probably would not hear it.

I like to monitor voltage since my truck does not have an OEM gauge for that, but I noticed that alerts do not work. Alerts will only work if a value exceeds a setting, and in the case of voltage we would want an alert if voltage was too low. I didn't find anyway around that. Anyone figured out a way?

On mine I monitor on page one; ect; eot; egt & boost. Page 2 Trans Temp; & IAt. For some reason I cannot display mod volts. I thought there was something wrong with gauge sent it back and received a new one and still no mod volts. I did asked another member
( Don't want to give his name out but has an 03 in his signature)a couple of times with an 03 the same year as mine if he can monitor mod volts and he never gets back to me. Well I have no use for him..I though everyone helped each other but I guess not..Other than that one member everyone else...THANKS!!!!!
Sorry just had to vent!!!!

If you can, I would try to bring up ICP and IPR duty cycle. These 2 are great to monitor the health of your HPO system. If you were to be at the beginning stages of a HPO leak, you'd see IPR duty cycle increase as the PCM tries to command a certain value for ICP.

For instance, I usually see IPR duty cycle at 22.1% at idle(operating temp). If that value goes up, I know there's a HPO leak somewhere and I need to start bringing my walking shoes with me.

That's exactly the kind of suggestion I was looking for. I don't know if those parameters are available, but I will check.

Hey Rocky, I have an 03 also and cannot display mod volts. I dont think our truck support it until the 06 MY.

I did a quick dig through the parameters available on the Insight computer software and couldn't find either the ICP or the IPR duty cycle listed.

It would be nice to know the IPR duty cycle, if that parameter did in fact provide a bit of a warning before a HPO leak was large enough to shut the engine down.

I used to be able to monitor ICPs with my old QZ Commander, but it really didn't seem to be useful information. The numbers changed continuously so I soon wasn't paying them any attention. So if there ever would have been a change to the numbers that would indicate a problem, I probably would have missed it anyway.
