What kinda dash do you have? If you have the one with the switched to the lower left of the steering wheel:

You have to remove the right side of the black panel which is held on with some clips you need to pull it off (dont break it). The other side has some torx screws holding it on and you need to remove those and pop the clips on it. Also, the wiper switch and headlight switch ***** are gonna be holding the panel on. The wiper one pops off but the headlight one you have to push a button on the actual switch which you probably need a long screwdriver to do. Youll know what im talking about when you see it.

thanks for help guys I got the dash off and pulled off the headlight switch, White97xlt that switch is the exact one I need its the same I pulled out, but here is my problem, the switch prongs looked fine but the pigtail was absolutely obliterated, it had been heated and was all warped and burnt looking, wires on the back of it were burned and chafed, I think I found the problem... But I'm in trouble now because I know nothing of wiring, do I order the new pigtail, cut the old one off, strip a little of the insulation off, twist the two wires together then solder and put shrink tube over it? do I need to do this for all 9 of the wires?

Thats probably the best way to do it. Not sure if they make a plug in harness to replace it.

.....put the shrink tubing on the wires before you twist and solder them together.

Volvo, There is a replacement pigtail. This problem is common.

Yep, that's the best way.

thanks guys, Update I have taken care of my headlight situation, kind of bummed out though because it took me all day between figuring out how to remove it, using epoxy on some broken plastic lol, and putting it all back together, todays plan was SUPPOSED to be brake fluid flush and, rear differential service but oh well, hopefully I can knock out the diff. service tomorrow after work
