It seems that all of the automotive OEMs are making "Throw Aways" now. So we are stuck with "Planned Obsolesence" as well as the "Throw Aways". In many ways the consumer is totally screwed.
Another example is the headlamps for the '96 LSC Mark VIIIs and all of the '97-98 Mark VIIIs. Ford and Sylvania made a HID system that works pretty good but, each assembly cost about $750.00 and the '96 Marks had terrible chrome on the reflectors that burnt off in about 3 years and then you couldn't buy bulbs for them. The '97-98s have good chrome on them but for several years now you couldn't buy bulbs for them either. The used parts suppliers are the only source. On top of that the plastic lens' gets cloudy after about 2 years as with all of the plastic lens' out there. Also they leak. We are stuck with buying JUNK, It's pretty junk but still junk.
You would think that with all the plastic lenses out there they would make some that won`t cloud up,but then they would not sell anymore......or at least a stronger coating so they last a few years longer......I guess they want you do buy new car/trucks every few years.....that way they stay in Business....just like all the Electronics, all throw aways......then they wonder why I hang on to old stuff that still works!

I only replaced my computer because I couldn't upgrade to some newer programs without a great expense. I like to keep the stuff I like until it is no longer useable. I keep my cars and trucks until wheels fall off or it's shredder time.
They are making engines that will last over 500,000 miles with decent maintenance, but they equip the car or truck with headlamps you cannot buy bulbs for, in my Mark VIIIs case at least.
