I just bought another truck. It is a 68 (i think, no papers and vin # is for a motor home?) 1/2 ton short box 4x4 4spd. its a total basket case but has a cherry grille and a chrome rear bmper with the original brackets. But it has no steering colulnm. Does the column have to be for a 67-72 4x4 or has any one used other years or applications? I have two complete columns out of two wheel drive automatic trucks. Any info or ideas would be appreciated.
you can go up to 79....although you will have to work out the wiring for the turn signals.........4x4 or 4x2 the column is the same...the difference is the coupler that hooks to the bottom of the column...
I read that too at first but upon re-reading it I assumed he said what he had was a 1/2 ton 4X4 shortbed with a vin number (probably the one on the door) that said it was a motor home. A lot can change in 35 years including the doors! I know you guys say there is a vin on the frame somewhere but can't remember off hand exactly where.
hey guys, guess I should have given a bit more info. Every body part is a dfferent color so I know they have been changed. The drivr side doorand fender are the same and the Vin # are on the door. When I took them to DMV (before buying the truck) they said it was a motorhome. But any way any suggestions on the missing steering column. My neighbor used to ave one of those motorhomes, they were built on the f-350 cab and chassis. Thanks for the help.

Yes, Ford indeed did build a motorhome in 1968, actually, they build the chassis, and somebody else put the camper part on, in mine, it happened to be Eldorado. It is on a 1968 F350, looks like a regular Ford pickup with a permanent camper on it!
The column is mostly the same from 67-79. It will fit fine, but the wiring changes after 72. The ones up until 77 will still look ok, 78-79 kinda look funny with the smaller wheel and larger hub.
