The HF one folds up, I would think that would be shaky, it has the slotted head plate like I've always used, but it's HF ... some tubing bird crapped together barely covered with paint.
The Jegs one uses slotted brackets versus head plate, I've never used slotted brackets and think they might be a weak point, I also see it harder to make custom brackets, It's bolted together so it should be stable and it can be dissembled for storage, I suspect it's of better quality as well.
I have the 1,000 one from HF.
It held my IDI but I could not turn it without taking some of the weight off with a hoist. The one from JEGs does not look much better than the nicer one from HF.
You should try to find a better one than thoes, but if your cheap like me than just get the HF 2,000 stand and call it good enough.
go for the jegs one. the extra set of wheels at the stress point make a nice difference. harbor freight ones tend to sag on the steel and stretch where the pins go though. ive got their engine stand, had to bend it back a few times and still leans.
why take it back when you bend it up when you can just get one that wont bend to being with? and you dont think $30 extra is worth the time and effort to keep returning a product to the store, putting it together agian ect.
front casters don't turn on hf stand. Rear steer only. Their wheels are cheaper and MUCH harder to roll, the jeggs one has 2 load bearing center casters for more wright distribution and easier to move.
Just at a glance, the JEGS looks superior to the HF engine stand. HF is typically junk. I've been looking at engine stands on craigslist and found some serious ones for ~$100-150.
Yup, It would be used frequently, In fact it'll likely have a motor of some sorts on it the rest of my life, the others I have are twinkies and would crumble under the IDI. I think they are 750 pounders.
I as well believe the Jegs unit will be of better quality. I suspect it'll be the one, never know with me until it's ordered...
A draw back on the Jegs unit, I've always found it easier to steer items like this that have fixed casters on one end, steering a heavy motor with all swivel casters is difficult.
I've been long distance ripped to many times on craigsripofflist ... If I can't find it where I can go physically I don't buy anything off craigsripofflist.
Though I must admit, I have had some excellent experiences as well and met some fine folks.
The last one was painful and I'll not go through that again.
