Tranny fluid level ??

Changed my tranny fluid last night. Just by draining TQ converter and dropping the pan and filter. Didn't have any help so it was easier doing it this way.

Anyways checked the level after the tranny temp was about 120* in park at idle, and the fluid was about at the half point on the hot range of the dipstick. So i added just a hair more fluid to bring it up and now the entire cross hatch of the hot side is covered, and i can't tell if its just a hair more over that. I didn't put any more in than i drained out (measured what i took out). Should i drain some out or should i be fine? I should have just left it at the half mark i think.

Stick the dip stick in and pull it out and look at the level. Do this about 5 times in a row and get an average.

If it is barely over I would not think that will be an issue.

Might want to move selector to R-N - D- and all the rest with foot on brake . Leave it in each gear for a couple seconds then back to Park, then recheck.

Yeah i checked it a few times like mentioned, after driving, stopped going through all gears etc. The reading i get seems to be at the high mark of the hot area, if not a
tad over.

We have a topic here where I pasted a page from manual.
The auto transmission fluid level needs to be checked at the temperature 150-170F from what I remember (drive manual so I don't have to remember that) and Ford advise to check it after at least 20 miles drive.

Its goin to take alot warmer weather to get that warm. I can only get it around 120 right now, driven for long periods of time. Pretty sure that is warm enough

If you are at the top of the scale at 120F you are going to be way over at 150.
The fluid expands quite a bit and measured at the bottom of the pan, the cold scale is about 1/5 of the hot one.
I would still extract a quart to stay at the bottom of the hot scale. Some say overfill is more harmful than underfill, but the best is stay with it right.
