TUNE UP ESSENTIALS.............

ok guys,
i broke down and got what i think is everything i'll need for a decent tune up on the ol' girl

champion copper core plugs
msd cap and rotor (brass inserts)
msd street fire 48,000v coil

wix filters to include......fuel,air,crankcase breather
pcv valve (that im re routing to the vacuum tree)

i cheaped out on the plug wires.... Borg warner 8mm......

i have a couple of questions before i jump into it this weekend.......

1- have i forgotten anything
2- should i take the BW wires back and go for the msd street fires
3-anyone know what size plug i will need for the old pcv location in the #8 runner
4- what do i need to look for when dealing with a "rich" exhaust smell

im not going to mess with the timing too much at this point, i will check it and set to 15-16, but with 135,000 miles, im going to change the timing chain/water pump/radiator/electric fan next month, so i'll do my real deal timing then......

since i only have one cat behind the o2 sensor, is it worth my time/trouble to remove smog pump, can i simply plug the hole up and remove it, i remember reading something about leaving something to satisfy the computer, im not going to change the EGR stuff.....and im thinking of punching out the cat since i have no prob with inspections in this area........

i'm also thinking of temp replacing the muffler with a piece of flexible stainless to see if i like the way it sounds.....and go from there as to what i do for a muffler.........

anyway, if anyone can think of anything i have left out, or any tips and tricks, please chime in and school me.......i'm getting about 17 on the highway right now.....and seriously i don't think much more then, if 10 in the city, and from exhaust smell she is running rich, so my main concern right now is efficiency.......with my 308 gears, i would like to hit at least 23 out on the highway like others here.....

thanks in advance guys, love the knowledge !!!

I like the MSD wires , i would use autolite coppers instead of the champions , it would be better to remove the cat & replace it with a strait pipe , you can remove the air pump & use a shorter belt , FR makes an idler pully that will go in place of the pump , thats if you have a 302-351.....Lew

I like the Ford Racing wires and autolite or motorcraft plugs.

the msd wires i saw were "free" on one end, you have to cut and crimp the end on that goes to the plug.....is there a special crimper for that?.....is there any trick to doing it the best way other then simply doing it the right way
