Ordered my new PCM
But I'm wondering what caused the failure in the first place and if maybe I caused it somehow.
When I installed the rear airbags on my truck the air pump has a minimum pressure switch that activates the pump automatically if the pressure drops below a certain level (about 5 lbs). It was reccommended that you hook it up to a key switched terminal on the fuse box so that it would only operate when the key was on or in acc.
There is a slight leak in the system and every couple days when I turn on the key, the pump would instantly begin running, along with the fuel pump and whatever other systems kick in at startup. It has a 15 amp fuse and the motor is rated at 12 amps.
So I was wondering if maybe all that current surge on startup may have fried the PCM over a period of a month or so. I'm not wanting to install the new PCM and fry it also.
Should I try to isolate the pump? Maybe put a physical switch in line that I can keep turnrd off unless I need to run the pump.
Good idea? Don't worry about it? What?
Any thoughts?
Rob
