Dodgy Diff?

I just purchased a 2002 F250 PSD to replace my F150 and love the truck. Got a wierd problem tho.

When I go to make sharp left turns like turning around in a parking lot or into a narrow street it feel like I am getting wheel spin on the rear right wheel.

It almost feels like the Diff isn't working, but right turns are fine. Makes no difference whether I'm in 2WD or 4WD.

The odd part is that the tire isn't showing any sign of wear when I make the turns and I'm not leaving any rubber marks on the ground.

Does anyone have a suggestion where I should look to identify this problem?

Thanks,

Gary

do you have limited slip in the rear diff? If so, then you might just need a tad more friction modifier...

Regardless, since it is new to you, I would drain the rear diff and inspect it, its good maintenance anyway. If everything looks good replace the fluid with something like royal purple with friction modifier (if you have LS) and see if that helps.

When I saw the thread title, I was afraid some idiot had put a Dodge diff in his Superduty.

Agreed on the friction modifier. Sounds like it is working though, so depending on how bad it is, you might want to just leave it alone. Mine will chirp the tires on a turn when crossing the painted crosswalk. That tells me it is working as designed and holding loaded clutches during a turn. Just what I want.

Many of us have found no need for friction modifier when using some synthetics. I use Redline 75W140 and needed 0. Put it in straight and try it. If you get chatter, then add small doses of modifier until it goes away. Too much modifier reduces the effectiveness of the clutch style LSD.
