Just swapped a '90 V6 into an '89 Bronco 2 yesterday. She started but when I push the accelerator she dies. The '89 was sitting for a year and a half. I poured some Berryman's into the tank to see if it would help clean up the gas.It seemed to run better(as long as I didn't touch the accelerator) but this morning she won't start.
Also, the fuel line from the tank to the filter was replaced (by the previous owner)with a simple rubber hose - not a high pressure fuel line- but it did run before.
Does this sound like bad gas or bad pressure because of that line?
Appreciate any help!
I'd say low fuel pressure, you'll need a pressure gauge to know for sure. Causes could be a clogged filter, low voltage at the pump(corroded connection or bad ground), or a partially seized pump. Not sure about the details of the fuel sytem on the BII but the full size trucks from this year had a dual stage pump system.. low pressure in-tank and a high pressure frame mounted pump, you should really pick up a shop manual for this.
Thanks Conan. I've got the Hayne's manual but it is not very specific. I've just got the one fuel pump in the tank. I'm hoping that's not it 'cause pulling the tank is a pain...
if the fuel was that old you need to replace it for sure. replace the fuel filter and check fuel pressure with key on and then with engine running if possible. the haynes should specify what psi you should see.
