Just be careful putting too much material on the doors, I did and the door panels went on too tight and two clips broke off one of my rear door panels. To fix this, I removed material where the door panel stand-offs are (spacers separate from the clips).

Had no trouble with about 1" of fiberglass on the doors --- which compressed very nicely to snugly fit the available space.

Post fit, the doors now close with a thunk rather than a metallic clang, and noise reflected from the engine / drivetrain is down by at least 3db.

The factory hood-liner is NLA, so I guess I'll need to make my own from some sound-deadening mat.

Assuming you don't have a moisture problem, fiberglass mat there works real good --- though a layer of lead foil to absorb the sound and deaden it would be great there -- a high noise environment.

Be sure you don't snuff out something that needs ventilation, and also trip up in other ways.

Do the XLT and Lariat have the hood insulator with the 6.0L PSD? Or is it not there because it would trap heat in the engine bay?

Early years did, but after about '05 they eliminated it. Most think it was a cost cutting effort, not for any technical reason, because at the same time they took away rear wheel well liners, puddle lamps in the doors, etc. I think the King Ranch might have retained the hood liner for the longest. Pretty hard to believe it is NLA. I would find a VIN for any King Ranch, easily found on truck sales sites, and give that to FTEpartsguy so he can look up a part number for you.

Trying to kludge together fiberglass would be a waste of time.

I know I'm resurrecting this thread, but I just got a hood liner today from a salvage, with the clips, for $20. It's not new, but neither is my truck. It was in great shape really. I thought it was a good price.

man no offense but just suck it up and deal with the noise. It could be worse, you could have one of the new 6.7s which you cant even hear if the damn thing is running. Diesels arent what they used to be. I think the 6.0 is the perfect volume. Loud enough to hear it and sound good, but not loud enough to be annoying. To each his own i guess...

Just take it off. Won't hurt anything to not use it. If you notice a difference in noise, and I don't think it will be enough to bother, then look for a replacement. I can't help with cleaning it.

"waste of effort" so to speak...

The difference with an audio application is whether climate control is an issue, and also what leeway there is to work with in terms of space, cost, etc.
Difference here is that sound deadening doesn't keep the truck running. If you knew anything about these trucks you'd understand that the APR studs, tune, exhaust, and gauges are imperative to keep the 6.0 happy and trouble-free. The other things are personal effects, yes. To me, trying to sound deaden a large, heavy, diesel truck is a waste. Enjoy the sounds the damn thing makes.
