Ok, this might be an absolutely stupid question....but I am goinna ask it anyway. What would be the best power chip, module, etc.... to get for better mpg's, power, etc... I haven't bought anything like that for along time, and never anything for a ford. It would be for a 96 xl with a 5.0, auto. The only performance mods to date is a K&N filter (replacement filter) and the exhaust cut from behind the cat, 3" into a generic flowmaster and dumped at the rearend. Sounds great, would love a lil more git up n go, and everyone could use some more mpg's.... Thanx a bunch guy's..and girl's...
Don't wast your money, chips are no good unless the motor has forced induction. If you don't have strict smog rules to conform to I suggest you ditch the rest of the exhaust and install shorties and an aftermarket Y.. the stock cats are a cork. Then get a timing light and add some more timing, base setting is 10deg from the factory but these motors will often take 2-4deg more before detonation becomes audible. The other best thing you can do for the 5.0 is put more gearing in the axles, all these 5.0 trucks should have got 3.73 minimum and if you have larger than stock tires don't be afraid of going to 4.10's.
You may want to try some new copper plugs and be sure to keep 7 and 8 wires separated as much as possible. Check the firing order to be sure these two fire right after each other. It is 6 and 5 on my 5.8.
