My Buddie has a 99 XLT with power windows and he thinks the switch is bad on the drivers side because there is no noise, problem is the window is down and he wants to know how to get it back up manuelly because hes not going to the dealer to get another switch..he says the motor is holding it and it won't move.....
Remove switch from door, try some contact cleaner! My pass side one did not work when i bought the truck, but with a little cleaning it has worked ever since.
extract the switch from the door and jump across the connections to power the motor. Reinsert the switch.
So he doesn't have to take off the door panel then,I assume the switch will come out fairly easily.I'm not too mechanically inclined so i'm not sure how this works, but i'm thinking take off the wires from the switch and power it with the battery is that correct?

I have not had to remove the switch on a ranger, however on a lot of vehicles they just pop in and out(I ma not sure if this is true for the ranger). all the switch does st interrupt the flow of electricity. if you connect the 2 wires either with each other or by using a 3rd wire that should work. You do not have to bring power from the battery. Make sure the truck is on when you are doing it. Check that it is not a fuse or relay are the other windows working? is there anything else on the truck that is not working?
So we don't have to use a jumper cable on the battery,i'm assuming the wires your refferring to are the wires that tell it to go up or down is that correct? Nothing else wrong that i know of other window works alright....
Do not try to power the windows from another source....
Pull the door panel off and check the voltage at the window motor, use a volt meter or test light (circuit safe) If there is 12volts when the switch is pressed ( put the meter in
one of the two motor wires and try up and down on the switch.
If there is 12v present then the switch is good and you could have a bad motor.
If motor trys to move the window but doesn't then it is the window regulator.
The switch doesn't go bad that often more likely it is the motor or regulator.
Good luck
Oh yea main power from fuse box is Lt Blu/Blk.
Driver window Red/Yel is up I think and Yel/Red is down you should get 12v on those wires when the switch is pressed either up or down.
