I have a vibration... I think I might of put the wrong flex plate on the motor.. how can I tell without having to yank the engine again?
So my questions is this.. can someone describe what it will feel like if the wrong flexplate is installed.. say I put a 28oz on a 50oz motor... the new engine is an 80 block and had a 50oz harmonic ballancer on it.. I got in a hurry and think I put the 28 oz flexplate on.. not 100% positive.. I have couple.. so its not a matter of just looking and counting.. I honesly dont know..
I starts up and runs fine... lots of pick up and go.. only issue is at around 1000-1300 rpm +/- there is a fast vibration then it smooths out
cruises down highway at 3000 rpm at 80 with no problem.. 1000 + miles now on new motor..
Thanks again..
You are not the first to do that, speaking from experience. You may be able to remove the cover , then crank the engine over until the balance weight is on the bottom side and compare it to the other flexplates you have . the 50oz. weight will be bigger. You don't want to run it that way or you will knock the main bearings out. JIM

Reason: spelling
If you know how many 50oz. and how many 28 oz. flexplats you had , it may just be a matter of seeing what you have left of each one. The wrong or damaged balancer on the front of the engine will do the same thing. I had the same problems using 28oz. parts on a 302 that was a 81 engine and was supposed to have been a 79 engine when I bought it. JIM
