I have a 302 from a 79 F150 mated to an AOD in my truck. It has a pretty serious vibration, especially around 1500 - 1800 RPM. I googled the symptoms, and it seems like I may have the wrong flexplate. According to the info that I have found, my engine is a 28 oz external balance, and has a 157 tooth flexplate (it had a C4 mated to it) and the AOD requires a 164 tooth flexplate. Some of the threads I read said that a flexplate from a Bronco or F150 with a 351W and AOD would be correct, as the 351W are all 28 oz external balance.
Has anyone here experienced this, and if so, could you tell me what flexplate you used to correct it?
The correct flexplate should have a counter weight welded to it .
I think from what I've seen the 50 oz flexplates usually have a few cutouts in them with little or no weights .
You should be able to verify what flexplate you have through the inspection plate at the bottom of the sandwhich plate .

Looks like you did your research and have it figured out correctly, You need a 164 tooth flex plate, mine was sourced from a 84 crown vic 351 W - AOD. that should get you moving. Offhand I am almost positive this is the flex plate you need ( E0AZ 6375 A ) but please verify it.
Somewhere i have a page from an old NAPA catalog listing flex plates, # of teeth and weight size with part numbers. I'll dig it out if you need it.
Both the 28 and 50 flexplates will have counterweights. (IIRC, the 50oz version has a larger weight than the 28) 302's after 1981 used a 50oz imbalance flywheel/flexplate. 351's continued to use the 28oz version. If your AOD was behind a late model 302 and you used that flexplate, there's your problem. Get the correct flexplate and you should be good to go.
The plate that you're looking for isn't exactly rare, but they aren't laying around in piles at the salvage yard either. The 351W/AOD combination was not common. Buy a new one. They're cheap. Check here:
