rebel, decide on how you want your truck's running gear to be when complete, and buy a 73-79 donor truck that has those parts. It then will be a matter of making a package like you want. Buy a piece here and there and you can have issues.
Welcome! From South Carolina!
I second John's advice, it is what I did a few years ago. I found a '76 F-150 with the engine, transmission, A/C, power disc brakes and power steering combination that I wanted and transplanted it all into my '66.
Then, I sold parts off the donor truck, and then scrapped the hulk and made more tan I paid for the truck to begin with, so all my upgrades were free.
Again, Welcome to FTE!
I just changed the brakes on my 66 with a 78 front end. Changed everything except the springs , arm off the steering box ,and the splitter boproprocinaning valve) [alot of us don't know how to sphell]. I'm planning to change the box and master cylinder when I change the rear axle. I even used all the new tierods and rubber mounts! I got the whole front end from a local junk yard for $100, I thought it was alot till I saw the new rotors and that the king pins were already changed. The only things I wish I would have gotten were the springs and antisway bar, but for that price who can complain? I only needed to use the torch once, and it took me about 2hrs and a couple of wiskie cokes, luckilly no bandaids.
look at what you are buying (donor or just a front end) and look at the parts you will need... you may luck out like me. Good luck!
