Just thought i'd chime in and introduce myself and my new F350 i just bought today.
Its the second Ford i've owned the first being a 87' Econoline, always had american cars/trucks from a early age.Just come home from Tampa FL where my dad has retired to and had a fantastic 5 week holiday.
Anyway,i just bought a 83' F350 Crewcab (ex military) 351w for a knock down price from a friend as he could not get it to run when the key was released which i think is the fusible link from the ignition switch..but im sure some of you guys will know exactly what the trouble is.
Heres some pics...
As for your starting problem, I couldn't really tell you.
Have you looked at your Neutral Safety Switch to make sure it's all hooked up? When I bought my truck, she wouldn't start up by key because the switch was unhooked.
Depending what type of transmission, it's most likely on the driver side on the transmission.
The neutral switch interrupts the cranking signal to the solenoid. If it cranks over, that should be fine.
There is a resistor wire that delivers voltage to the ignition after the key is released. I'd bet that wire is open or disconnected.
I hope you have a wiring diagram. I just gave mine away with a truck that I just sold.
Thanks for the reply's.
I have a Haynes but its not much good unless you have microscopes for eyes ,if i knew the colour of that wire then maybe i could trace it,anone know where its hooked up to at either end..?
You can use the search feature in this forum for further info. Also in the electrical forum, great help there if you want to repost. All these issues come up over and over.
