I have a 1990 Full Size Bronco. The directional switch that
sends the air flow to the vents, floor, and defrost is not
working. I understand it operates vacuum valves.
Has anyone had experiance repairing this problem? What
typicly is the part that fails? Is it generally the unit in on
the dash controller or is there somthing under the hood
I should be looking at?
I did have a problem with the A/C controller which did default to the defrost vents. Check the vaccum fitting under the hood on the passenger side next to the jack placement. good luck
My 92 did the same "defrost default". Turned out to be one vaccuum line under the center of the dash that someone in their infinite wisdom had just tied in a knot. (I can only assume to keep it from hissing at them.) Blue w/ white tracer vaccum line with a clear rubber end barb that, had the guilty party taken the time to look, they would have seen the vaccuum diaphram with no line running to its open barb. Now I know the dash changed dramatically by 92 but it may be a step in the right direction if you can't get a hold of a vaccuum diagram.
It's a bright silver (galvanized) vacuum motor about the size of a tangerine, and you can see it by looking up under the dash from the passenger footwell toward the center. You might also find a diagram here.
