Removing 2nd row bench seat?

I'm considering buying an '05 Ex with the Eddie Bauer 2nd and 3rd row bench seating but first wanted to know how 'easy' it is to remove the 2nd row bench? Are we talking just a few bolts and nuts or is it a time consuming job? Thanks a lot for your help. Graham.

Are you talking about removing it completely or replacing it with captain's chairs in the 2nd row?

Heres some info I put together on the 2nd row swap: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...l-it-work.html

Removing is easy, finding matching Captains chairs is hard... hope that helps

Thank you kindly for the reply RMBC. Basically I just want the ability to remove the 2nd row bench during camping trips when I convert the inside for sleeping. After the trip it will be put right back in place. Is this something I can do under an hour? Thanks again!

Hmmm,
not sure the floor height difference would be something I'd want to sleep on , but to each his own....

not enough room with just the 3rd seat removed ?

Actually, when the 2nd seat is down, and the flap is lowered, it's pretty flat and makes for good sleeping. You would have a big void to fill if you took the seat out as the floorboard is several inches lower at the second seat as compared to the 3rd.

I'm actually fabricating an aluminum raised platform complete with (2) 20" wide by 48" deep by 12" high drawers that will roll out the back for camping gear. The sleeping platform is above the drawers and will extend forward past the 3rd row bench. The 2nd row bench needs to come out in order to make room for coolers, etc.

Can I remove the 2nd row bench exclusively from inside the cab or do I also need to crawl underneath to undo the hardware? Thanks, Graham

Not 100% sure, but every late model ford I have done seat removal on is done through cab only access (nothing underneath, all the nuts are welded on the body underneath)

Big Torx head bolts holding seat and belt points, nothing else.

Taking them out should easily be done in under an hour if you have done it more than once. First time is just going to be figuring out the easiest way out (through back or 2nd row doors, I am going to guess through the back)

Good luck

I can confim what consol said - all bolts are torx head and the nuts are in the body, nothing you have to hold on the underside. They will slide right out the 2nd row door once unbloted, but the bench portion on the driver's side is HEAVY! I did it both times with a helper.

when taking out the second row seat, is it one piece or does it come out as two peices? 60/40 or 70/30 or whatever it is.

Two pieces, roughly 60/40. The "60" portion is a heavy b***h!
